Just Now
John F. Carter, poet and artist. Lakeville CT
This painting was inspired by a recent hike at Overmountain in Ancram NY. Nature and creativity are the places where my broken pieces and those of the world come together briefly … the union of opposites … an opening of healing, vision, and deep connection.
About the artist: John F. Carter describes himself as an occasional painter. “Over the years, I have worked with watercolor, acrylics, and wet pastels. Nature is a continuing source of inspiration and nurture.”
Dimensions: 11” x 14”
Medium: Wet pastel
John has also become a prolific poet. This poem below came together over the course of a couple days, at the same time he was creating this painting.
Untitled
In the many-greened
meadow a briar curves…
almost floating ... pink
blossoms of wild rose spill their fragrance onto the waiting earth.
High in the willow tree two ravens scream at each other, their calls tearing the sky ... perhaps in distress,
perhaps in aggression.
It's hard to translate.
I can't help but connect, and it's unsettling.
Something is wrong, but
they will straighten it out.
Perhaps we will too.
